Skincare Routine for Oily, Dehydrated Skin

We have shareable collections on the site now! If you aren’t already aware, you can create lists (called “Collections) on the Memebox site by clicking the ❤️ next to products. Click “Share Collection” for a custom link! Now that they can be set to shareable and public, I put together my skincare routine, which you can find ➡️ here. I hope this helps for those with similar skin concerns!

My skin is moderately oily and prone to dehydration. It can become very flakey and dry around my nose area if I’m not hydrating my skin and body enough. My main concerns are hormonal breakouts, clogged pores, and dehydration.

My skincare routine isn’t complete yet but here’s what’s working for me now!

First Cleanser: For the last two years, my go-to has been Botanic Farm’s Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet. My skin is never dry with this and it removes all of my makeup. I do get breakouts if I don’t wash it off completely, so I always make sure to either double cleanse or rinse thoroughly.

Second Cleanser: I’ve been on and off with my second cleanser. I finally settled on the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser last month and have been using it since. It’s gentle and does the job, but I feel some dryness when I double cleanse so I’m still on the hunt for something better.

Peeling Gel: I exfoliate 1-2 times a week, three times if my skin is extra flakey. I’ve tried so many peeling gels and this is the only one that doesn’t make my fingers feel all ~weird~. It’s been about 4 months and I’m nearing the end of my first bottle, but I already have two more in backup 👊

Toner: When I first tried Secret Key’s Witchhazel Pore Clear Toner, I fell in love so hard that I bought two backups. After my second bottle, I started using their Tea Tree version for a change of pace and ended up loving it more. It just felt more gentle and soothing 💕 I enjoy both, but I’ll probably be switching to Tea Tree once I’m done.

Treatment: I’ve mentioned the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Essence in a previous post and I’m still getting great results. I just love how hydrating and cooling it is on the skin. It does leave a slight tackiness, but I always get that with treatments. So far, it’s been really helping to replenish my skin and keep the flakiness away.

Treatment: This isn’t on my list or the site, but I’ve recently started trying The Ordinary’s Advanced Retinoid 2%. Two weeks in, I’m not getting less acne, but they are healing much faster. Could be a placebo effect, but 🤷‍♀️ It might also be drying out my skin a bit, so my Snail Mucin Essence has been godsend this month.

Moisturizer: The only moisturizer that I’ve ever stocked up on and called my favorite of all time is the Mizon Black Snail All in One Cream. Maybe I haven’t tried enough, but this is the only one that doesn’t leave my face tacky. It soaks in quickly, doesn’t smell like anything, and is so incredibly smooth and creamy. As someone with oily skin, I can appreciate that it hydrates so well without being heavy or feeling like a layer of oil.

Eye Cream: When I do remember to use eye cream, I use LJH’s Vital Firming Eye Cream. It’s very light and disappears into the skin seamlessly. Prior to this, I was using Benton’s Fermentation Eye Cream, which was way too thick for me, and Cosrx’s Honey Ceramide Eye Cream, which made my eyes water. Can’t speak to the results, but I’ll definitely be sticking to LJH going forward.

SPF: The Skinfood Aloe Watery Sun Water Gel is one that I’ve raved out in a previous post. It’s one of the very few sunscreens I don’t mind wearing daily. It’s as light as a moisturizer and smells delicious 😋 To read the full review, click ➡️ here.

Sheet Mask: I have two favorite sheet masks. The Tosowoong Dr. Troubex Soothing Mask Pack is one that I recommend to everyone with acne and redness. It instantly calms down irritated skin and makes my skin look much, much better. I don’t usually notice results with sheet masks, but this one really proved me wrong.

My other favorite is the Polatam Pure Cream Firming Radiance Mask. I use this baby sparingly because it’s on the pricier side. But wow, the results are insane 🙏 I used this before a wedding, and my foundation applied like a dreamy fairy cloud afterwards. My skin was smooth, soft, and supple like never before.

Misc: I love the Nooni Toner Mask Sheets (formerly known as Skin Pack Sheets) so much I buy them in bulk. They don’t “absorb” but “hold” product instead, meaning I have to use less. They’re sturdy and has never left strings of cotton behind. They’re life-altering. Just try them and thank me later 😎
