5 Ways To Recover From Sun Damage

1. Be diligent about your sunscreen.

This is the evergreen of skincare. You definitely don’t want to continue skimping out on sun protection. Remember, any exposure to sun is damaging to your skin. Be sure to layer on the SPF every morning! For a quick lesson on sun protection, click here.

Making sure that your sunscreen is on whenever there’s sun will ensure that you’re protected from further damage, and your skin can start recovering.

2. Exfoliate.

Exfoliating weekly does a number of things, but the most beneficial in this case is increasing cell turnover (the rate that new cells form) and removing the damaged skin.

We recommend trying out a chemical exfoliant such as AHA. It’ll help to remove the top layer of skin and tackle wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and improve texture. If you’re not comfortable with chemical exfoliants, try a peeling gel. These are gentler and will help slough off the sebum and dead skin.

3. Treat with Vitamin C or Galactomyces.

There are so many wonderful ingredients that will help your skin look its best in no time, but vitamin C and galactomyces are especially great for recovering from sun damage. These two ingredients will help lighten out sun spots, pigmentation, and rough patches. Incorporate them into your routine for regular use and you can expect soft and supple skin!

4. Soothe irritated skin with aloe.

Aloe is well known for its ability to soothe dry and irritated skin. I love aloe products even for every day use because of how gentle it is. This power ingredient can help remove toxins and keep your skin moisturized so that it doesn’t flake and itch.

5. Rehydrate your skin.

After the sun dried out your skin, you’ll definitely want to get some moisture back in. Hydrated skin will feel softer, look more supple, and be healthier overall. I like to use a snail mucin or hyaluronic acid serum and a light moisturizer, but you can also opt for a heavier moisturizer. Just be sure to replenish your skin well!
